Nut-Free Energy Bites

This month, I introduce KidNutriYum’s version of Energy Bites that are simple to make, and can be included as a “sometimes” snack for school. These homemade raw balls of wholesome ingredients, are an excellent alternative to processed snacks that contain bananas and agave as a sweetener and no preservatives. They require minutes of your time and are a fun kitchen-based activity to enjoy with your children. You can also experiment with using a variety of nut butter options. These freeze very well.

Ingredients

1 cup oats

2/3 cup unsweetened shredded coconut

½ cup sunflower seed butter (*homemade)

½ cup flaxseed meal

2/3 cup ripe mashed banana (roughly 2 bananas)

1 tbsp. chia

1 tsp vanilla

1/8 cup Agave

Directions

Mix ingredients and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Form into balls. The balls can be flattened into a round crust and topped with fruit as well.
